Volunteer

We appreciate our volunteers and are always looking for new volunteers throughout the state of Texas, who can meet our stringent requirements.

Please note that it is not a prerequisite for someone to be a railroad employee, or to have a railroad background, in order to be a volunteer for Texas Operation Lifesaver. In fact, we welcome people from all walks of life, and we strive for diversity in our volunteer pool.

Requirements

Before you can conduct presentations to the public, you must complete an online classroom training assignment, and then attend a one-day face-to-face session with other applicants. When a face-to-face session is scheduled in your area, we will send you the online training link approximately 45 days before the session start date.

As an Operation Lifesaver Authorized Volunteer (OLAV), you will conduct presentations on your own time. Being accepted as an OLAV does not necessarily imply that your employer will compensate you for travel expenses or time off from work.
